Professional Route Setting

The success of a climbing wall is achieved through quality route setting to maximise its use.

The success of a climbing wall is achieved through quality route setting to maximise use. Climbers are most engaged on fresh problems with natural flow and ergonomic movement.

Route setting is the process of placing holds on a wall in coloured sets to provide a path for climbers to follow to the top. Routes are graded according to ease or difficulty and give feedback to climbers on their progression. The quality of set routes is what keeps a climber mentally engaged and physically challenged. Their goal is to reattempt the climb until they cleanly (without falling) reach the top before progressing to the next route.

Route setting is an intuitive and creative process completed by an experienced team of setters. A poorly set wall with unimaginative climbs that are awkward and clumsy detract from a users desire to climb. Professional route setting will maximise a wall’s utilisation and increase repeat business ensuring climbers remain engaged and challenged at all levels.
